/ Catalytic Converters

Spent cats, honest assays.

Catalytic converters contain three of the most valuable metals on the periodic table. We treat them that way — every unit identified, weighed, photographed, and assayed before settlement. No flat-rate guessing games.

What we buy

We handle catalytic converters in both forms: whole and de-canned. Pricing reflects what's actually inside the monolith — not just what the can looks like.

  • Whole catalytic converters — petrol and diesel, all makes & models
  • De-canned monoliths — ceramic and metallic substrates
  • Diesel particulate filters (DPF) — PGM-bearing units
  • Loose ceramic / catalyst powder — processed by assay
  • Lambda & oxygen sensors — sold by weight or unit
  • Foil / metallic catalysts — sorted separately for downstream refinement

What we don't buy

Empty or "gutted" cans, after-market straight pipes, and aftermarket converters without catalyst substrate have minimal recoverable value. We'll always tell you upfront if a unit isn't worth processing.

How pricing works

The metal markets set the ceiling. The condition of each converter sets where it lands beneath that ceiling. Two factors drive the assay:

  • PGM loading — how much platinum, palladium, and rhodium the monolith carries
  • Monolith condition — intact ceramic vs. crumbled, contamination, oil/coolant fouling

For high-volume sellers we offer either reference-code pricing (where the make / model is known and the PGM content is published or established) or sample-assay pricing for unidentified or mixed lots. Either way, you see the working.

The workflow, end to end

Catalytic converters are easy to lose money on if the process is opaque. Ours isn't.

  • 1. Identification — each unit's reference code is read and recorded (where present)
  • 2. Photography — every converter photographed from multiple angles before processing
  • 3. Weighing — gross weight, then monolith weight after de-canning
  • 4. Cataloguing — you receive a line-item list of every unit before settlement
  • 5. Assay & pricing — PGM content evaluated and priced against current market
  • 6. Settlement — payment per agreed terms, supported by full documentation

Compliance & ethics

The catalytic converter trade is regulated for good reason. We only buy from sellers who can demonstrate legitimate ownership — scrapyards, panel shops, motor dealerships, exhaust workshops, and registered traders. Stolen material has no place in our supply chain, full stop.

Standard documentation is required for every consignment: seller identification, proof of ownership where applicable, and our standard intake forms. This isn't bureaucracy — it's how the industry stays clean.
